Klondike Derby

The Klondike Derby is an event in which Boy Scout, Venturing, and Webelos patrols navigate through a wooded area to locate towns. To locate the towns the patrols may either use a compass or GPS. In those towns are skill challenges and games. To win the Klondike Derby a patrol needs to gather the most points accrued from each town. In addition, a commercial skit for an item in the sled/wagon is done at the evening campfire program in which final points are accrued.

There are two divisions; Boy Scouts/Venturing and Webelos. These patrols do not compete against each other except for the overall best Spirit Award.

There is a Trooper versus Trail Robber activity occurring in which the patrols may be “robbed” and have their sleds “stolen”. The Troopers are an Explorer Post whose specialty is Law Enforcement. The Trail Robbers are the Venturing Crews. The
Troopers will wear their Class B uniform shirt to identify them as Troopers or may purchase the Trooper T Shirt. The Trail Robbers will wear their Class B shirt or the green Venturing shirt or may purchase the Trail Robber T Shirt.
